This Bristlecone Pine may be 1500 years old. It is located near the continental divide at 12,000 feet elevation. It is the lone survivor of a long ago forest fire. This image was captured on November 30, 2004 above Hoosier Pass. It was a 90 minute snowshoe hike to reach the mountain ridge. I came across this guy in a fishing port in southern Puerto Rico in March 2004. He seemed to be a character and let me take his photo. To obtain this effect I oversharpened it and then applied a diffuse filter to it -- and really like the way his face and beard looked like a painting.
