You have blackness surrounding the brightness of the leaf and the rain drops, thus illustrating that there is always light in the darkness. I took it around 5:30 at night, just as the sun was starting to set. At one of my friends house. It had just rained and the drops are what caught my eye. This picture is special to me because, though we often take it for granted, light is the most integral part of nearly all life. When I shot this photo in my photography class, my goal was to show how vital and how incredible light is. I had a photography teacher, who encouraged me to "not look through the viewfinder" and just make photographs. This was one of the images I made in 1976 with a Rollei 35mm miniature camera and Tri-X film. When I took this picture I was in a tire and rim shop, at Hunts Point, Bronx, NY,with a friend who's obsessed with his car.
