KODAK MOMENT of the Day

It's quite a treat to be able to hand-feed chickadees in my backyard. This picture was taken with a Minolta Dimage X digital camera.

This beautiful, shy creature was spotted at the edge of the woods along a road in an Ontario provincial park. The photo was taken through the open window of the car, resting the camera's zoom lens on the frame for stability. She was gone the second after I pressed the shutter button. Had I climbed out of the car to set up a tripod, I would have missed the shot!

When I saw this photo I immediately thought of Alfred Hitchcock's movie, "The Birds." I love this spooky scene!

The somber tone of an evening remembrance ceremony was set by this firefighter in dress uniform.

I shot this picture with a Kodak EasyShare DX3900 digital camera. I also changed the color to grayscale.

I was standing on Malecon Blvd. at the entrance to the Bay of Havana when I took this shot of the Moro Castle.

It was a late fall afternoon and I was taking pictures of my children. We were by a pond when I noticed some flowers. I quickly got my daughter and placed her in the middle of them.

I've seen the two at venice beach CA and had to take their picture !

I finally found a use for all the "free gift" lipsticks I'd received over the years through store promotions. I photographed them, using a piece of black velvet as a background!

Taken in Rome on a sidestreet. It was from a negative that I scanned using a Kodak RFS 3600 film scanner.I cleaned it up a bit and solarized it using Adobe Photoshop Elements.

This picture was taken in Oaxaca, Mexico with Kodak Gold 200 film. I really liked that wall with the color, signs, and shadow. And I waited for several minutes until somebody walked by.

This is one of the many beautiful entrances to a home in El viejo San Juan. The oldest city in Puerto Rico.

The sun settles as a canopy over the city down in the valley. It had been clear and cold for the past few days. The fog seemed to catch itself on the valley sides.

I've been working on this classic boat for 16 years through all the diversions of life. I finally decided that enough was enough and I should finish this project. Sliver is now transporting me and my family all through the St. Lawrence Seaway. I should have finished this project long ago!

I took this shot in the subway in Manhattan, July, 2001. The model is my 15-year-old niece, Jenny. I heard the train coming, knew the shot I wanted, and Jenny obliged by leaning against the pillar for me just as the train pulled into the station. People often say, "That can't be New York! It looks way too clean!" WE LOVE NEW YORK!!!! and visit every summer. I desaturated the blues in this shot in order to play up the yellows and greens.

I took this picture in Santorini, Greece. When I saw this scene from behind, I struggled to catch a good snap of it before that man walked away!

This is my three-year-old just enjoying life at the beach.

La Garita, the guard post, at el Morro Castle, has been a silent witness to the history of San Juan.

The photo was taken with a tripod-mounted Nikon N8008s 35mm camera using an 80-210mm AF Nikor lens. The film was Kodak ASA 25 color print film.

I walk my dog every morning and take pictures as I go. My dog enjoys sniffing everything so I get plenty of time to look for and then compose my shots.

For nine months out of the year I live and work in Bucharest, Romania as a teacher. While visiting my favorite park, I noticed this gentleman completely absorbed in his game. I politely asked if I could snap his picture and he said "Yes!".

This picture was taken through the window of a local shop called the General Store. The shop is very small, but it is loaded with antiques and nicknacks. They sell ornaments for the holidays and Betty is one of them. I loved the natural composition of Ms. Boop on the watches and did not notice the reflection of her eyes in the lower center until I uploaded the shot.

This picture was taken at Fort Jefferson in the Florida Keys. Over 16 million bricks were used to build this fort.

Macro photography is a passion of mine, but it can be challenging under some conditions. For example, I took this photo on a fairly breezy day, which made it quite difficult to capture in sharp focus. After taking about 25 shots and nearing the end of my patience, I was finally able to get this one in focus.

These columns support a shadescreen over a sidewalk in Chandler, Arizona. The slats of the shadescreen created these wild shadows on the ground and the columns.

I shot this photo of my daughter and my nieces during one of those rare, peaceful moments. I made sure to crop in close to get the expressions on their faces as they gave their big hug.

I took this picture at Old Orchard Beach, Maine at sunrise. I placed the figure to tie in the picture with a feeling of wonder at the sunrise that's starting a day of hope and promise.

When I saw my friend's son, Daniel, wearing this top hat, I thought that a black-and-white photo with natural side lighting could make a really neat picture.

Original was taken with Kodak Ektachrome film and copied using a digital camera.

A foggy day in Ireland.

This picture was taken on the north shore of Flathead Lake in NW Montana, just as a storm approached. It was taken handheld, as it was too windy to use a tripod.

This is Burnside bridge at Antietam, site of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. I thought that black-and-white was appropriate for the subject.

I spotted this car at an auto show. The smile just grabbed me.

This picture was taken in the Massai Mara, Kenia, using a 400mm lens on a Nikon F5 camera.

The American cowboy today still rounds up horses the way it was done a century ago. This photo was taken in eastern Oregon just after sunrise.

The people who own this sunflower were kind enough to plant it on the very edge of their property, next to the sidewalk, as if to share it with everyone in town. Now maybe it will even be seen in Kansas!

Could this happen in Tornado Alley? Here in Iowa, we have beautiful farmlands and barns, as can likewise be seen across the entire U.S.A. But, what about those possible tornados? The clouds and the barn are separate shots, both taken on a late autumn afternoon. I used a little imagination and digital manipulation to invert the sky and create the illusion of multiple funnel clouds!
