KODAK MOMENT of the Day

Macro photography is a passion of mine, but it can be challenging under some conditions. For example, I took this photo on a fairly breezy day, which made it quite difficult to capture in sharp focus. After taking about 25 shots and nearing the end of my patience, I was finally able to get this one in focus.

These columns support a shadescreen over a sidewalk in Chandler, Arizona. The slats of the shadescreen created these wild shadows on the ground and the columns.

I shot this photo of my daughter and my nieces during one of those rare, peaceful moments. I made sure to crop in close to get the expressions on their faces as they gave their big hug.

I took this picture at Old Orchard Beach, Maine at sunrise. I placed the figure to tie in the picture with a feeling of wonder at the sunrise that's starting a day of hope and promise.

When I saw my friend's son, Daniel, wearing this top hat, I thought that a black-and-white photo with natural side lighting could make a really neat picture.

Original was taken with Kodak Ektachrome film and copied using a digital camera.

A foggy day in Ireland.

This picture was taken on the north shore of Flathead Lake in NW Montana, just as a storm approached. It was taken handheld, as it was too windy to use a tripod.

This is Burnside bridge at Antietam, site of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. I thought that black-and-white was appropriate for the subject.

I spotted this car at an auto show. The smile just grabbed me.

This picture was taken in the Massai Mara, Kenia, using a 400mm lens on a Nikon F5 camera.

The American cowboy today still rounds up horses the way it was done a century ago. This photo was taken in eastern Oregon just after sunrise.

The people who own this sunflower were kind enough to plant it on the very edge of their property, next to the sidewalk, as if to share it with everyone in town. Now maybe it will even be seen in Kansas!

Could this happen in Tornado Alley? Here in Iowa, we have beautiful farmlands and barns, as can likewise be seen across the entire U.S.A. But, what about those possible tornados? The clouds and the barn are separate shots, both taken on a late autumn afternoon. I used a little imagination and digital manipulation to invert the sky and create the illusion of multiple funnel clouds!

This is my husband, John. I went for a different effect with lighting and a prop. I think that this look-a-like came out really neat.

Taken on the streets of Detroit. This sharply dressed lady just happened by as I was shooting the mural behind her. She instantly "made" the photograph!

I stopped in to visit my good friends Frank and Donna Grad while they were babysitting their new granddaughter, Mikayla. You can see how thrilled they are to spend time with her. With their upcoming retirement on April 1 after 35 years, they will have lots of time to spend with her!

Klik-Klak, Klik-klak! These may now be mere memorabilia (and replicas) of our past. but they caught my eyes when I was shopping at Chinatown, Singapore. It's amazing how these little pockets of traditions, customs and colourful festivals best express their proud heritage to the young generation.

Pictured is a girl I met in a schoolyard in Hargeisa, Somaliland. She was there waiting for her lessons to start. I was there to establish cooperation with my school in Sweden.

This is a photo of a meadow located in Big Sur, California.

Quick shot of my fiance with my Kodak DC4800 at the Minnesota Zoo Aquarium. I was going to turn on the flash but decided the contrast without it was much more interesting and asked my fiance to "strike a pose!"

This picture shows all that remains of the Temple of Vesta. Located within the ancient Roman Forum, a walk through these and other such ruins, allows the modern day explorer to follow in the footsteps of historical figures like Julius Caesar.

This digital photography thing is addictive! I was emptying the dishwasher today -- and when I closed up the vegetable steamer basket to put it away, I saw a close-up photo op. Ever since my daughter gave us a KODAK EasyShare for Christmas, I've been seeing the world around me in a whole new light!

I found the bright red roof of this building an object that the lines of the surroundings pointed to, and forced you to look inward.

This picture was taken with a 35mm Minolta camera attached to a 12 inch telescope. A combination of two, one second exposures were scanned and digitally combined, creating the image you see here.

The young child was alone in a small village in Serra da Freita, Portugal.

Taken while on vacation in Russia. The sky and lighting was so changeable, it was only like this for a matter of minutes. Taken on an Olympus digital E10 camera.

I took a dark cardboard out to my garden here in Maine, and took this photo. I did not have to cut the flower!

This is a composition made using various shots from the funfair.

I was shooting the sunset on the Long Island Sound one summer evening. I noticed the golden beach sand at the boat launching area was untouched except for a set of footprints leading to the water where someone had just stepped in for a swim.

While waiting for the sunset at the old pier in Fremantle, Western Australia, I saw this girl playing on one of the pylons and fired away!

This angel guards a family plot in Cavalry Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI. This cemetery is the oldest extant Catholic cemetery in the city. I removed the trees from the background using Photoshop 7.0 and replaced them with clouds.

While hiking at the wildlife refuge I walked right up on this fawn, and was able to take several photos without disturbing it.

Slot Canyon, in Page, Arizona.

This elite runner is finishing the Marathon. I used a slow shutter speed at F5.6 and a 400mm lens. My film was KODAK Professional Supra 100. I also used a monopod.

After capturing this georgeous sunset in the Adirondacks, I put it through various photo programs and played with it. I kept coming back to the single bubble effect. This simple bubble and God's beauty were what satisfied me the most.

This delightful froggie was clinging to the window just outside a convenience store. When I armed myself with my camera he just posed with his big old smile right on the ledge. He brightened my day big time!

One day after 9/11/01 we started our long drive home from Wyoming to Atlanta. We didn't get far before this scene lifted our hearts.

This was taken in the morning in the forests west of Cairns, Australia.

Eagle Cliff Falls, one of Mother Nature's well-kept secrets hidden in Havana Glen, just outside the town of Montour Falls, New York. After a few minutes hike along a well-defined trail, we stumbled upon a magnificent 300+ degree amphitheater like setting, with 100+ footwalls carved out of layers of rock. This 50 foot waterfall was flowing while many other Falls in the area had barely a trickle of water. The picture was taken with a tripod mounted KODAK DC4800 Digital Camera, using 3x Optical Zoom. The camera's Advanced Exposure Mode:Manual Shutter Speed feature made it possible to capture the awesome beauty of this waterfall, by manually setting the Shutter Speed to 1/4 second, with the Aperture set at F8. I used the DC4800's 3.1 MP Hi Compression image mode for a picture resolution of 2160 x 1440.

Most cats like to sleep in the sun, but this cat is unique! Her favorite place to sleep is in this bowl. I think that she blends in well with the colors of the bowl.

I took this beautiful picture of the magnificent Bird of Paradise, on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.

Behind the digital world where we live, there are still human beings. This picture was a kind of joke about a friend, who said that pictures are now only made with "1's" and "0's".

I took this picture of my 2 year old daughter, Isabella Grace, while we were vacationing in the Carribean. She loved my hat so much she wouldn't take it off the entire week we were there.
