KODAK MOMENT of the Day

This elite runner is finishing the Marathon. I used a slow shutter speed at F5.6 and a 400mm lens. My film was KODAK Professional Supra 100. I also used a monopod.

After capturing this georgeous sunset in the Adirondacks, I put it through various photo programs and played with it. I kept coming back to the single bubble effect. This simple bubble and God's beauty were what satisfied me the most.

This delightful froggie was clinging to the window just outside a convenience store. When I armed myself with my camera he just posed with his big old smile right on the ledge. He brightened my day big time!

One day after 9/11/01 we started our long drive home from Wyoming to Atlanta. We didn't get far before this scene lifted our hearts.

This was taken in the morning in the forests west of Cairns, Australia.

Eagle Cliff Falls, one of Mother Nature's well-kept secrets hidden in Havana Glen, just outside the town of Montour Falls, New York. After a few minutes hike along a well-defined trail, we stumbled upon a magnificent 300+ degree amphitheater like setting, with 100+ footwalls carved out of layers of rock. This 50 foot waterfall was flowing while many other Falls in the area had barely a trickle of water. The picture was taken with a tripod mounted KODAK DC4800 Digital Camera, using 3x Optical Zoom. The camera's Advanced Exposure Mode:Manual Shutter Speed feature made it possible to capture the awesome beauty of this waterfall, by manually setting the Shutter Speed to 1/4 second, with the Aperture set at F8. I used the DC4800's 3.1 MP Hi Compression image mode for a picture resolution of 2160 x 1440.

Most cats like to sleep in the sun, but this cat is unique! Her favorite place to sleep is in this bowl. I think that she blends in well with the colors of the bowl.

I took this beautiful picture of the magnificent Bird of Paradise, on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.

Behind the digital world where we live, there are still human beings. This picture was a kind of joke about a friend, who said that pictures are now only made with "1's" and "0's".

I took this picture of my 2 year old daughter, Isabella Grace, while we were vacationing in the Carribean. She loved my hat so much she wouldn't take it off the entire week we were there.

I thought this was so beautiful, I just had to take a picture. I love butterflys!

Punkin is a huge orange cat who, unfortunately, is not very smart. But what he lacks in brains, he makes up for in sweetness and curiosity. He was curious about the camera - and how could I resist taking a picture of this sweet face?

I photographed this honey bee while it was busy gathering nectar.

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this precious baby while on a recent mission trip to Chimala, which is in Tanzania, Africa. We were visiting a Messai tribe deep in the bush. The baby didn't even seem bothered by the fly in the corner of his eye, or the heat causing him to sweat.

I took this picture in Monument Valley, and it reminds me of a scene right out of a John Wayne movie.

My cousin Max has a natural curiosity -- represented here by his magnified eye. He's looking through a glass I picked up at a second hand store.

This frog was hanging on a vine. I couldn't pass up taking this picture.

I used my daughter's camera to snap this picture of my nephew's hand grabbing my mother's.

I caught the innocence of my daughter, Isabel, in this pose. She is 6 months old.

This picture was taken just before nighttime, in Jerusalem. I was drawn by the way the sun created both highlights, and long shadows, on the buildings.

I photographed a whole litter of puppies for an owner, who wanted to give the photos as Christmas presents to the people that adopted them. This was my favorite of the group! I used a black velvet background and tripod.

This was taken in the Japanese Gardens in San Francisco with a Kodak digital camera. The picture has an undeniable abililty to transport you from wherever you are, to the unstirred serenity of the garden.

Back in the 70's, while on my way to work each day, I would pass the place where Willie lived. One day I stopped -- and soon we became friends. I liked listening to his philosophy on life; and although we were only friends for a short time, Willie was one nice man. This picture was shot on Kodak Tri-X in the 70's, and scanned later, in the 90's.

Don't be fooled. This picture was taken in broad daylight, using 35mm slide film and a Nikon F3. It was superimposed with a blue filter and moon shot with a slide copier. The final slide was scanned to a CD Rom

I was just getting off shift, and there it was.

Pretending to be a fashion model -- this is a picture of my ten year old daughter, Jendaya. The photo was taken after school, in September 2003. I used Kodak Portra400BW, a Nikon F100 and 85mm lens.

We thought this boat looked so relaxing and alone. Doesn't it make you just want to get in, and float away?

This is how I will always remember my son when he was 15 months old - 2 fingers in his mouth and hugging his bunny. I scanned the original picture, and then used PhotoShop to adjust the contrast.

This Lotus was planted in 2001, and bloomed for the first time in 2002. Each day the blossom took on a different appearance -- and this was the Grand Finale!

I was walking around at the annual Beaverdale fall parade in Des Moines, Iowa, when a friend grabbed me and said, "Make sure to get a picture of Allie in her new band uniform." She pointed out her daughter, and I crossed the street to get a better angle. All of a sudden, the conditions came together to make a photograph rather than a snapshot -- the V of the formation echoed the V pattern gold buttons on the uniform. The orange-red of the tunics screamed fall, and the soft autumn sunshine backlit the scene to give Allie a soft fall glow. I opened up to properly expose Allie's face in the backlit conditions, and I even got all the flutes standing at "attention"!

This sunset picture was taken in Santa Barbara, California, behind the lighthouse pizza place.

I was just walking on the beach at the end of summer, close to 9/11/01, when I saw a dark shadow near the edge of the dunes. As I approached, this image emerged out of the shadow. I never got the chance to meet the artist, and I hope he gets to see this.

I wanted to try a humorous approach to a basic headshot. I used Adobe Photoshop to create the special effects in this photo.

This picture was taken in the region of Central Asia, named Karacalpakstan. These are the hands of the young bride, taken during a photosession dedicated to native customs.

Using a 14mm lens on my Nikon camera, I was exploring this stairwell for an interesting angle for a picture. I was happy with the results -- just the angle I was looking for.

South Dakota's Black Hills provide a beautiful backdrop for the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. As you approach, you are greeted by the flag of every state.

While on vacation, in Arkansas, we passed by this house sitting off to the side of the road. The picture was taken with a digital camera, and turned out more beautiful than we ever imagined.

This picture was taken inside St.Paul's Basilica, in Rome, Italy. The beautiful light pouring in through the window created this mystic scene, and allowed me to capture the picture using only the available light. As ALWAYS, I was pleased with the results from Kodak film. :-))

Roy Square is really a sort of alley way, with a variety of small shops and eating places. It's located just off one of Toronto's main intersections and subway transfer points, Bloor and Yonge. I was very lucky that a girl happened to pass by and cast her shadow, just at the moment that I was taking this picture of the painted buildings.

I took this picture using a Kodak DC280 zoom, with the 17x macro lens attachment. I also used a halogen spotlight to help with the resolution. Incidentally, the squirrel is quite tame, and is my personal pet . He was sitting on the palm of my hand peering curiously into the lens when I took this picture. : )

We were keeping several baby chicks during spring break from school. I decided to let my children play with them in the yard while I took LOTS of pictures. I loved the results!

I loved the graceful angles of this snow fence, and the wonderful shadows created by the sun.

This was my first attempt at using 2 stacked macro lenses on my Kodak LS443 digital camera. I took the picture just after a rain storm, and I really like how the water droplets clung to the petals and to the center of the flower.

I LOVE horses. I stopped at a farm to ask permission to take some photos; and, not only did they say yes -- but we went on a tour, fed the horses, and visited with lots of other animals. It was a day my boys and I will never forget!

This picture was taken in Times Square, NYC, on May 8th. I bought a camera just for this trip, and the pictures turned out great!

Bharatnatyam is an Indian dance form that exemplifies eye movements and facial expressions. I photographed this talented young girl enacting goddess Kali, claiming victory over the Rakshasas (demons), thus demonstrating good vanquishes evil. I shot this using Kodak TMAX 400 (under exposed by two stops), with the flash bouncing from a mirror on the left on a black background.

This picture of my son was taken during the water break of his soccer game. It was SO hot that day, that we had to find some shade -- and as he sat there, I took this snap shot. Dressed in green, I told him he looked like a 'little green man' -- right out of science fiction. : )

This shot of a beautiful butterfly was a quick shot, with a gorgeous result! The butterfly did not remain still for very long, so I had to work fast.

My son is in the military, and one way that our family remains close, even over long distances, is with pictures. These are my grand daughters! He sent me this picture last year for my birthday, and I couldn't have asked for a better present. When I look at it, I can almost here them say, "Hi, Grandma!" Currently he is stationed in the Middle East region, and I'm hoping that he is able to login on his birthday (June 12th), and see this as Picture of the Day. I can't think of a better present for him!

This is the most perfect sun ball that I have ever photographed! It was taken at Sodus Bay, in Rochester, NY -- May 2003. I used Kodak E100VS Film.

Shortly after September 11th, 2001, the decision was made to hang an old 48 star parade flag from the City of Mountain View's City Hall rotunda. This picture was taken from five stories up looking down onto the flag, just after city personnel and our firefighters assisted in hanging the flag.

This is my 7 week old Weimaraner baby named Gracie. The picture was taken in my mother's flower bed, which turned out to be a perfect setting to complement the blue in Gracie's eyes. The picture is special to me, because it was her first!

This picture was taken at the Alabama Jubilee Hot-Air Balloon Festival, an event held annually in Decatur, Alabama.

She knows she'll never be in trouble with her Grandpa, and picking flowers is so much fun! Grandchildren are the reward for raising children.

I took this picture last July during a fishing trip. These hungry birds were just following the boat.

The black "frame" that you see in this picture is a candle jar holder. The glass ball inside it, is a Venetian glass paperweight that I bought in Venice, one of my favourite cities. The blue background is simply a piece of blue cardboard. And, the shadows were created by light from the window next to the desk on which the objects were set up.
