KODAK MOMENT of the Day

I admire this goose from a distance, and I call her "mother goose" because that is what she reminds me of. I was lucky enough to be in the park with my camera when she decided to come up on shore and nose thru my camera bag for some food -- so I got some nice close pictures of her, and was amazed at her beautiful face close up.

This is Bass Harbor Lighthouse, located in Bar Harbor, Maine where we vacationed last year. I had to climb out onto the rocks and waters edge to get this photo.

This is Willow, our 4 month old Weimaraner, and she is very affectionate. I wonder if she will still be a lap dog when she is close to 70 lbs!

This picture was taken in October 2002 on my first trip to Carter Mountain Orchard in Charlottesville, VA. It was a crisp day and this apple was sitting on a fence post, beautiful and untouched.

This is my 2 year old daughter. She is sitting on a windowseat in my bedroom. Dressed in her pajamas, she was waiting for me to read her a story.

These girls live in the same neighborhood that I do in Baghdad. They love to get their picture taken, and they speak some English. Often times they are joined by other kids on bikes, and they all ride around and race each other -- just kids being kids.

This picture was taken in Southhampton, England.

I took this picture using black and white film for the first time. I am from Michigan and this picture was taken on my first trip to Scottsdale, Arizonia at a golf course. The scenery is so beautiful, and it amazed me that a golf course sat in the middle of a desert.

When researching my trip to Africa, I remember seing a black and white photo of a chameleon crossing the road in a Lonely Planet book. The entire trip I wanted to find and photograph something like that. Towards the end of my trip I almost ran over this guy crossing the road. I was lucky enough to snap this photograph near the Skeleton Coast in Namibia in 2003.

This photo was taken during an amateur singers concert in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina -- and depicts a performance by one of the winners. I like it because of the high level of movement captured, while on the other hand, focus captures interesting elements of clothes. Somehow it gives emphasis to the pure energy of performer.

This rooster was a real ham. He just loved to pose!

I studied abroad in Italy last year, and I really missed my family, especially my mother. This picture represents -- how even-though my mom was so far away -- she was still there holding my hand and helping me grow.

I took this shot at midnight by the light of the full moon using a 2 minute exposure @ 5.6. 24mm on a Nikon F5. I also pop'd the flash a couple of times in front of the camera. Although I live in San Diego, and the Coronado Bridge has been photographed innumerable times, I thought this was a great shot because of the different perspective with the lighting.

A combination of four digital photos were used to creat this one.

It was my Mom's 50th birthday on Thanksgiving day, so I planned a special family trip to the coast. That evening, my husband and I took a stroll on the sand at sunset and I got this picture. I love it because it captured my husband, his reflection in the water, the great colors of the sunset, and shows the edge of the water and the length of the beach.

This is a creative shot I took locally this past fall. The season was spectacular for fungii and I enjoyed photographing many varieties here in Squamish, B.C., Canada.

As I took this shot, I was reminded of sundaes with grandpa. He'd take us grandkids in his old Chevy to the local diner and buy us, "the sundae of your choice."

This picture was taken of a group of men in my home town who are considered the "father's" of the community. Taken in Wellington, Missouri (population 800), during the summer of 2001, they are all respected friends of mine.

This lovely kitten was trying to catch something. Never knew that taking good shots of kittens could be so time consuming! But I liked the lighting and pose of this one a lot.

Well, I don't speak English very well, but I will try... This picture for me is very special, because it shows nature combined with cultura of a colonial town in Mexico.

While enjoying a time of deep conversation and song singing with some friends, I broke out my camera and just began experimenting. This shot came out better than expected, and gives a perspective that I don't think many people look at...the guitar players left hand on the fret board. It's amazing how precise the human fingers are.

A rainbow ... nature's reward for surviving the storm! This picture was taken in Central Ontario, Canada.

This reminds me of my boyhood in the province. I took this picture in Batangas, Philippines, in a town similar to the one I grew up in over 50 years ago.

Two bunches of tulips lit with the light of 3 strands of small decorative mulitcolored lights waved over the flowers during a 16 second exposure.

This duckling was looking for his mother. I went down on the floor to capture this duckling, making people frown and wondering what I was doing down there. But that way I could really capture this one nicely.

I was taking pictures of a group of flowers in a big planter when I realized that a fly was on one of the nearby flowers. At the time, I was using my 28-80mm zoom lens -- so I set it on macro and started shooting. The fly posed long enough for me to get several shots to choose from.

I think babies are great subjects for picture taking. This baby was in a great mood!

A particularly challenging thing to photograph are real snowflakes. I "caught" these snowflakes by putting a piece of glass outside while it was flurrying. I would stare at the glass looking for individual snowflakes as they landed. Once I found one I liked, I would move under our covered front porch (where I had my camera mounted on a tripod) to prevent more snowflakes from accumulating. This set of snowflakes caught my eye because not only was it a 12-pointed snowflake (which are not nearly as common as the 6-pointed variety) but also because it was attached to another 6-pointed flake as if they were supporting each other. Their "combined effect" is why I call this shot "Synergistic Snowflakes".

In the small sub-Saharan village of Mbaakhe in Senegal, West Africa, water is a precious commodity. The older boy is offering water from the communal cup to a young child that's strapped to his mother's back. Candid pictures often tell a story better than posed shots. The picture was taken with a KODAK DC 4800.

A rainy day in the cloud forest might yield unexpected combinations and results...

I happenned to visit a rural fair and saw this stall selling colourful glass bangles. However the mood of the sellers did not quite reflect the splash of colours around them. That is what caught my attention.

I took this picture in Boston, last year under the Coast Guard Building on the waterfront. I used a Canon Elan 7, with a 22-55mm zoom lens set to 22mm. The exposure was 1 min @ f.16. The slide was scanned on a scanner and color corrected in Photoshop. I took this photo to complete my BFA degree in Photography and Digital Imaging. I concentrated on night photography and landscape nature photography while in school and recieved my degree last May.

My 13 yr. old son took this picture of his puppy. He named the puppy after his friend who was killed by a drunk driver. Stansford, my son swears that "Lee" is alive today in his puppy Lee, and that he still smiles at him through his eyes. I think the picture speaks for itself. You can see the love.

I love this picture because it shows one of my great vacation adventures in Morocco, and it's a picture that shows a different style of living. We paid this young Moroccan Nomad about 100 durhams ($10) to lead us into the Sahara desert on his camel. He is leading the camel that I was riding. White camels are thought to be very special, and I was given the priveledge to ride this one.

This photo was taken just after sunrise at a small lake near Quadville, Ontario in the summer of 2002. This is the way the photo really looks. No filters - no digital retouching. A beautiful place!

I saw some kids skimboarding in Santa Cruz, California -- and snapped this one at just as he was going airborn.

This was my best picture taken during a week long Phoenix Elderhostel program on photography. The picture was taken northwest of Phoenix in January 2004 with a long telephoto to emphasize the orange setting sun behind the Saguaro cactus.

This is my daughter playing her violin. I layered the photo with another of texture.

Taken down at a group of bolts. I got the idea at work one day, and the picture turned out pretty good.

I love this very special flower in my garden. It blooms only a few hours at night, one or two times a year. The picture was taken in February, 2004.

This was taken while on a field trip to a pumpkin patch this past fall with my youngest son's preschool class. I was lucky to get the shot in as hundreds of toddlers were swarming these cute, furry critters. They were the most popular attraction in the petting zoo.

Every where in Italy the colors are interesting, even on wash day! The picture was taken in Seinna, Italy -- February 2004. I was attracted to the colors of the wall, clothes and pins holding the clothes up!

This picture is special to me because it captures the essence of what Harlem is. Harlem is a historical place, with an essential sense of Community. It is also one of America's most famous neighborhoods. I captured this image in November of 2003.

Babe, Big Boy and Mr. Percival just love to show off -- while the seagulls and I watch!

Taken on the Windsor side of the Detroit River. The weather was cold, -12F, but with no wind the river and ice made perfect reflections. Nature at it's finest.

This picture was taken at White Sands, New Mexico.

This American Bald Eagle was just beginning to cup it's wings to slow it's speed -- preparing to dive down to the surface of the Mississippi River in an attempt to catch a fish. The picture was taken along the river in southwestern Wisconsin.

Taken at a local Capoeira Club in Toronto, Ontario, Canada -- these guys are amazing! They are a great group of people too.
