KODAK MOMENT of the Day

The fall colours began to appear here this year long before either the weather or the calendar said that fall was here. I shot this pretty autumn coloured leaf after a brief shower in late August.

This picture of my 22 month old granddaughter Jayde was taken in September. Jayde was diagnosed with Leukemia in April 2004 -- and the scare that we went through makes every picture of her is special to us. This one however, was taken at the right moment where she seems deep in thought and when the sun was setting, giving this awesome glow over her. It was as though it were her own personal "sunset."

I love this photo because it's a brief moment when all five of my Jack Russell puppies are actually still: they were just waking up from a nap. They're usually boundless bundles of energy. I took the photo in my backyard on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004.

I rarely see these schooners anymore. But last week, upon arriving at Lighthouse Point one hot summer evening in CT, one sailed by! They make me think of how it must have been sailing in the "Old World".

These cows look mad, but they are very gentle. Perhaps its the pictures perspective that gives them that look. The picture was taken on a farm in upstate New York (Monticello) this summer 2004.

You can tell the season by the flowers that are in bloom. It's autumn again!

Beauty in nature is everywhere. This little guy had strayed onto a sidewalk. I got down to its level and started snapping pictures when it sensed my presence and looked right at the camera. I thought this photo depicted the snail in an unusual moment of communication. The photo was taken on August 30, 2004, in Oregon.

I was able to watch and listen to this incredible 91-year young blues man perform at a recent music fest.

While on vacation in Ireland, I took this picture cycling along the back roads of rural County Mayo. There were so many breathtaking views of lush green rolling hills, but this particular scene revealed the isolation and tranquility I enjoyed most. The picture was taken with Kodak APS400 film.

A special point of view -- of an ordinary photographed subject.

This picture is special because it was one of my first! I am an amateur trying to develop "the eye." It was taken on June 25, 2004 in Milford, New Hampshire

This photo was taken this past summer at Summer Camp, where many new friends were made.

The setting sun reflects on a collection of pumpkins getting ready for Halloween.

This picture was taken in Bowling Green, Kentucky at an International Heritage Festival. In my mind it captures the creativity of a musician that is playing a melody in his mind rather than to the outside world.

Water has a unique place for all of us as an essential of life. From our earliest times, mankind has held water dear, and invested it with special and sometimes mystical powers. Our whole cultural, literary and artistic heritage is steeped in references to water. It is a very precious resource, but today we often fail to recognise its value.

This flower, just like one of thousands in my garden -- but this one just stood out against the clear blue sky.

I was setting up my camera and tripod to photograph the father of these two kids. I looked over my shoulder and was surprised to see these youngsters wrestling for position on a rock so they could see what I was doing. This image was captured on August 8, 2004. At nearly 14,000 feet elevation, it was a beautiful day on Mt. Evans in Colorado. The mountain goats are very gentle creatures.

This is a beautiful picture of my four girls taken in our backyard after swimming. Claire, age 3 1/2, and her identical triplet sisters, Mary Jane, Campbell and Grace, ages 2 1/2. They love freezer pops and Mom doesn't let them eat them inside (very often).

Everyone loves a Slinky! This is one of my favorite subjects to photograph as a slight change in angle or camera position can produce very interesting abstract shapes.

It's fall in Minnesota, and this is the river we live on. I LOVE the colors of this time of year!

Taken in September 2004, this is a picture of my 2 1/2 year old daughter Lauren. We were playing at a local park and I was fortunate enough to catch this moment.

A long distance from any ocean, southern Colorado hosts mountain sized sand dunes. This image was captured at Great Sand Dunes National Park, October 2004. A very worthwhile travel destination for anyone. Amazingly beautiful sand dunes rise to rival the mountain peaks.

Will is a regular guest at a soup kitchen where I am a volunteer. He is one of the most kindhearted persons I have ever met, and I wanted to capture that essence on film.

This picture was taken in our garden pond in August 2004. We watched the frogs grow up from tadpoles to the hansome prince and princess of the pond.

This is my favorite photo of a dahlia! I took the photo at a dahlia show this past September with my trusty Kodak DC4800 digital camera.

This "abstractive zebra" was photographed using a Nikon camera with a 70-300 mm lens.

Taken during a performance of a ballet folklorico group as they danced in the fiestas of a community near San Miguel de Allende, in central Mexico. The dancers are high school age, and their costumes are typical of the state of Chihuahua.

This photo is of the World War II Normandy American Cemetery situated on a cliff overlooking Omaha Beach and the English Channel in Colleville-sur Mer, France. I took the photo while on a 3-week Student Ambassador trip to Europe.

I was pleased with the final result of this picture because of the contrast and glass like water. It was taken on the banks of the Ohio River in Marietta, Ohio early one foggy morning. The boat is the Delta Queen, a leisure boat for vacationing on the Ohio River.

I have to say I am an accomplice to the fly murder. I saw the mantis by my porch light, and I saw the fly cleaning himself -- so I put the mantis closer and it only took a second for him to spot the fly, sneak up to him and snatch him.

This shot was taken in Orlando, Florida, while on a business trip. In the midst of a busy city, these two birds were perched peacefully on a wire. The dusky feel of this shot is really relaxing.

I went apple picking with some friends -- but before we ate them up, I decided to take a photo.

This picture was taken during the opening week of the National American Indian Museum in Washington, D.C. - Sept. 2004. The subject, an American Indian from South Dakota was extremly gracious to all who took his picture. Each time I look at the picture I see a face rich in history and experience, and one that endured the tests of time to get to this historic moment of recognition.

Image of a series or rain drops caught on a single spider web that I took in my front yard. I like it because of its starkness and simplicity. Like many things in nature, I think that the very simplest things often go unnoticed and underappreciated for the beauty that such scenes contribute to our environment. Maybe that's why they are so temporary and quick to disappear.

My precious 2 year old niece, and favorite photo subject, was clowning for the camera during a visit to her grandparent's house in June, 2004. She is a very special young girl who made medical history as the first child in the world to have benefitted from a new medical procedure at New York Medical Center, to prevent an inherited form of cancer (retinoblastoma) that nearly took the life of her older sister, and most of her father's eyesight when he was a child. While she sat on the shaded front porch steps, an unusual lighting came from the sunlight bouncing off the sidewalk in front of her, which I thought enhanced her impish expression.

This picture was taken Nov. 7, 2004, from my driveway. These were the brightest northern lights I have ever seen!

Late fall wildflowers, appropriately called in Spanish mirasol [looks at the sun], turn like colorful little satellite dishes all seeking the same signal as they track the course of the sun during the day on the high plateau of the Sierra Madre near San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico.

No, no. . . not the camera stap! Taking a portrait of a hungry subject can be difficult :-)

While visiting a nearby orchard, I noticed these jars of honey lined up neatly. The light from a window was hitting them just right, reflecting natures bounty.

These are Darryl & Darryl, our pet wild turkeys who were hatched by one of our chickens. I took this early one misty morning -- I thought they looked so "handsome."

Drifting along in silence amongst the peaks of the Colorado Rockies. Fresh snow on the mountains and a clear blue sky provide a great view for the balloonists in the gondola. This image was captured near Breckenridge, Colorado on October 2, 2004. A thrilling ride in one of the most scenic places in the world.

This picture was taken in Callaway Gardens, Georgia, October 2004. It is special to me because it makes me think of my girlfriends.

Who could resist taking this picture. Oh what fun! And, oh what a mess!

The leaf was floating in a bird bath which was sitting under a trellis in my back yard. This created beautiful geometric reflections.

An early winter morning: the moon was slowly setting in front, the sun rising behind my back, temperatures way below zero Celsius -- and getting the converter, long lens and tripod ready almost froze my fingers. Natural beauty can sometimes be very simple. The picture was taken February 2004 near my hometown.

When you have family in other countries, you catch only snippets of their lives during brief visits to distant lands. I last saw Andriyko when he was a few days old. Now he's two. This image of him will be burned into my memory until I have the opportunity to visit Ukraine again someday.

I like the lighting, the architecture of the Abbey and the perspective of this picture. Taken at Buckfast Abbey, Devon, UK in 2003. The Abbey is a favorite tourist attraction.

I took this picture on location in Mysore, Karnataka, India.

This guy couldn't attend the Halloween party at school because he forgot to bring his permission slip. Major bummer.

I took this picture last year, on the last day of Hannukah -- a shining reminder of the past.
