KODAK MOMENT of the Day

Who knew poison mushrooms could look so pretty? I had to lay in the mud to get this nice tight shot on these beauties.

This was taken after a ride on the London Eye at night. Instead of the typical angles to photograph, I decided to try something different and was impressed with the results.

This is a picture of my house. I was playing around with BULB settings and hand held flash. I set the camera on a tripod by the fire hydrant which is on the corner -- and away I went. The "flames" were created using a flare on a pole with me walking around the porch. Fun to do!

This picture is special to me because it was taken on the last night of Channukah while my mother-in-law and brother-in-law were visiting. I took it in our dining room where we had the Menorah placed, and was leaning out of my chair and looking upwards towards the flames of the candles.

This is a picture of my granddaughter taken last summer.

I took this picture in Chicago the 24th of November 2004. It was snowing and wind was really strong. I love that picture because it still gives me the same shiver I was feeling there in the storm.

This is one of my pet frogs. He is a Fire Belly Toad. Enjoy!

A "macro" shot of our holiday poinsettia. Tis the season!

This picture was taken in Brooklyn Park, MN. Because the children did not want their snowman to melt, I put up the large umbrella. This makes it special because I was preserving, at least for a while, a new pal of my children.

This is a picture of Jack Norrell, Italian Greyhound, posing for me in a Santa hat in the front of my house.

This is my grandson Braxton who is 7 months old. As you can see, he is in total "AHH" of Christmas. He brings back the true meaning of Christmas just by looking at his face. I think he see's Santa -- what do you think?

This was all an experiment! I had fun composing and creating this digital image in Photo Shop after I took the original picture of the cardstock triangles. Using the flood filter plug-in in Photo Shop, now it's more than just a photo.

This is my first picture in the snow. It was taken in December 2002 -- at Passo Lanciano, on the Maiella mountains in Abruzzo. The theme is "peace and quiet."

What d'ya mean, BIRD house? This guy has moved his whole family into our backyard bird house. Guess nobody told him!

This was an instant while visiting "Caminito" street in the city of Buenos Aires this past November. Even though it was a rainy day, these artists are dancing tango in the street.

Maggie goes everywhere with me, but usually encroaches on my landscape scenes. On this cold winter day, she felt like a queen because I wanted her in my photo. This image was captured near Blue River, Colorado on November 24, 2004. Maggie is a best friend and would wait forever by the river for my return.

Carnival en Brasil is amazing. This picture is just one of the many moments -- but most of them are in my heart...

This is a picture of my husband -- out on a winters walk. It was taken in Germany near Gummersbach, my hometown. I think I captured the beauty of nature in this season, but also a moment of solitude and sense of loneliness.

My family went to the circus and we saw this clown who seemed to be sad & tired!

I saw the light coming in the window. The teacups made a beautiful shadow.

You don't catch birds using a mirror every day - especially with such a funny expression! That's what makes this picture special to me. It was taken in April 2004, using a digital camera with Aperture f/4, Shutter 1/250, and ISO 100.

This is a typical November scene for the part of Austria where I live in. The fog was drizzling from the trees, and I had to be careful not to get the camera electronics wet. I chose this angle to lead the eye towards the light of a new (and perhaps brighter) day.

The photo was taken in Heidelberg, Germany. I like the bright colours of the photo and the way the duck turned its head to look at me.

This picture is special to me, because I travel frequently in Rajasthan, and work on a photo story about this Bhopa family (Nomads of Rajasthan.) I took the picture in September 2004, in Rajasthan, India.

This picture was taken in late November. Once again -- winter begins! I liked the picture because of the composition and creative angles.

At Larz Anderson Skating Rink in Brookline, MA, there is a separate rink just for little kids to learn how to skate. I sat on a low stone bench and spent a happy hour taking pictures of them on a late December afternoon.

Another water polo season is over -- all's quiet at the pool.

This Bristlecone Pine may be 1500 years old. It is located near the continental divide at 12,000 feet elevation. It is the lone survivor of a long ago forest fire. This image was captured on November 30, 2004 above Hoosier Pass. It was a 90 minute snowshoe hike to reach the mountain ridge. This tree represents the resiliency of growing plants to withstand the harsh environmental conditions in the mountains.

This picture is special to me because it captures the essence of my grandaughter Zoe. Zoe lives in Manhattan and is in Central Park nearly every day. She is always having fun in Central Park!

This photo is a combination of people, color, and nature. It was taken at Tel Aviv Beach, Israel, in 2003.

The local American Legion did this project for Veterans Day. There were over 700 flags -- it was a sight to behold on this "field of dreams."

A New Year Hyacinth.

I shot this photo in November 2004, when we had our honey moon in Hoi An, Viet nam. This old woman was so happy after I had bought her some bananas. I love her very much, she reminds me of my grandmother!

A family friend and a handsome young man.

These are some rusty old disc blades off a plow in the iron pile! They caught my attention with the colors and designs they formed. It always amazes me how much beauty can be found through the camera lens!

I came across this guy in a fishing port in southern Puerto Rico in March 2004. He seemed to be a character and let me take his photo. To obtain this effect I oversharpened it and then applied a diffuse filter to it -- and really like the way his face and beard looked like a painting.

Its a bit more crunchier than I remember as a kid. Just having some fun with these beads.

I have loved this image from the moment I snapped the shutter. It's simplicity and vibrant colors facinate me. It was taken in a wildlife refuge near New Orleans while on a photography trip with my brother whom I rarly see. It depicts a wild frog in it's natural habitat.

...chaotic office. This is my father, Dr. Goong Chen, a professor at Texas A&M University. Ironically, he always insisted that I keep my room clean when I was younger!

This is one of the first pictures I took with my DX6490. I was experimenting with my new camera and new puppy. She was sleeping until the Red Eye flash went off -- she opened her eyes just in time for the photo.

This is my favorite image of my children. They were dancing on a sand dune at Jockeys Ridge State Park on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Even though it was taken this summer, it still warms us up every time we look at it.

Although they live in separate villages in Ukraine, these sisters remain close.

I believe this picture shows the beauty of a Norwegian winter. The picture is shot outside the city Bodø, in the northern part of Norway during the last sunrays of the season. After this, we don't see the sun for months. This picture relate to the theme "nature" because it shows how beautiful nature can be, even with human interference.

I like the Black & White effect as well as the contrast. The picture was taken during a Safari in Israel.

This picture was taken at the annual NCAA training for new football officials at Ohio State University Stadium in August of 2004 - with a Kodak DX6490.

I was taking a series of pictures of our dog's paw just for fun when my son reached his hand into the photo. I love this picture! Details:macro setting on lens; under shade of bright day; flash used.

My 3 year old daughter just began ballet lessons. She wants to wear her dance clothes everyday. I took the opportunity one day as she was dressing herself to capture this.

The picture was taken using my Kodak LS443 in Jan 2004, during the Chinese New Year at the Tien Hou Temple in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I like the colour of this photo.

I really like this image because it's a drama about a small tree. What usually lives on a mountain, lives here between two buildings. Only the painted wall gives the tree its everyday needs. Yellow is the light, blue is the water, and the grey of the sidewalk is the soil. Cruel isn't it?
