Something about the smile ...

I love nature, there's nothing more relaxing than being out in a rainforest, or somewhere similar, and listening to the wildlife. I took this picture in the Eungella State Forest in Central Queensland, Australia The Orange Eyed Tree Frog is quite common in these parts, I love the sometimes comical look you can capture on their faces and in their body language

Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina is a city of modern buildings. They combine to form many interesting shapes and reflections.

Pale Male is a city dwelling Red Tailed Hawk. He is seen here with one of his chicks watching as his mate, Lola, returns to the Park Avenue nest he has occupied since 1991. This family of Red Tails have happily adapted to city life and are the darlings of a large following of non-feathered New York City residents.

This was taken with a Kodak One-Time-Use Underwater camera. I was so impressed with how well the picture came out!

I loved the way the lighthouse looked against the dramatic sky during my visit to Cozumel, Mexico.

This picture was taken at a local cemetary in Pinellas County, Florida.

I have taken many pictures of this tree in all seasons -- but on this day in January 2005, everything seemed right.

This little girl was returning home after a visit to a local mission in Uganda, Africa. Her parents wanted to give her to the church to care for, because they didn't have the resources to do so. I will never forget her little eyes -- I just wanted to bring her home to my family. I will always remember that day, and her eyes.

Mike lives in the streets of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I met him while volunteering at a local community mealsite where I am a volunteer. Mike is a talented charcoal artist and we connectted as two folks who love art. He has captured my likeness in charcoal and with his permission, I have captured his likeness on film. I feel privleged to know this person.

On their first winter visit to Maine, our children Rebecca, Kylie and Connor enjoyed a day of fun on a frozen lake. This is a picture of Kylie trying to stay warm.

This picture was taken in July '04 on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Grand Cayman.

I stumbled upon this ballonist on his first flight of the year. The vibrant color was a nice respite from winters - gray, white and browns. And the big smiley was whimsical and fun. The picture was taken at Calgarys Fish Creek Park, March 2005.

Taken in my home, I like this shot because of the graceful curves of the tulips. There is beauty in nature.

This is my son and his favorite blanket. I took the picture at home when he was snuggling up to his blanket.

After the snow I went to a local park where I noticed all the mallards searching for food. I took the picture to see if I could expose the snow properly.

This picture was taken in 2004. This beautiful young woman is from Sinai, in Egypt.

My DX7590 was a Christmas present and every picture it took on our San Carlos, Mexico vacation was more amazing than the one before. My husband took this early one morning on a hike to the top of Tetawaki.

My Westie Gus spotted a piece of Easter candy, and couldn't take his eyes away from the treat.

I shot this photo in a cemetery in Memphis. I like shooting photos at this cemetery because it has a lot of old monuments and it is landscaped well.

I always loved bunnies...they are the gentle and cute!

As soon as enough snow melts here in Ontario, my kids are back out on the street doing the thing that they love to do best. My garage is always stuffed full of ramps, rails, boxes, and quarterpipes...forget getting the car in there!

This picture was taken at home in my little studio. I arranged some bottle caps on a mirror treated with RainX, then arranged water drops using an eye dropper. The drops reflect the caps and the reflections of the caps.

My wife, posing with a black turtleneck shirt, black pantyhose over her face and black velvet background. I adjusted levels and curves to make the clothes disappear into the background -- and bumped the saturation to bring out the yellow and unsharp mask to add some punch.

I thought these looked cute -- so I had someone block them and let them build up, in order for me to fill the frame with them.

Flashback to October 2004 - it's game seven of baseball's American League Championship series. Even the karma of 60,000 Yankee fans "rubbing the babe" for good luck could stop "the curse" from being reversed. Boston won that game, and went on to the world series, where they finally "reversed the curse" that had been plaguing them since Babe Ruth was traded from Boston to New York in 1920. Here's to a new baseball season, and the start of a new "curse" :)

You have to love the looks that cats can give. I think that they sometimes speak volumes.

This particular photo is special to me because it's a shot of my 4 year old daughter, who loves posing in front of the camera, lucky me! This photograph was taken in October '04 at home. It relates to the theme selected because she is my daughter!!

The song "Morning has broken like the first morning..." was in my mind when I created this photo in mid-December 2004.

After the blizzard, lots of people were on "Death Hill," the local sledding place. It was a great treat to be outside with all that snow and a beautiful sunset.

My brother's Volkwagen came to us as a rusty-orange piece of trash with no wheels or insides that worked. He and my dad worked on that car for only a short amount of time before they turned it into a working piece of beauty! Its red hanging dice, shiny yellow color, and classic dash-board flower pot gave us happiness, looks from strangers, and memories to last forever.

Rocky, the world's greatest dog, deserves to be a "Kodak Moment" and seen in Time Square by all!

I took this photo at a local rodeo. When I captured the shot I knew I had a good one, and was looking down to view it on my cameras LCD. It had poured rain the day before and the arena was nothing but sloppy mud. At one point this rider had jumped off the bronc, and the bronc came racing around the edge of the fence as a couple of cowboys tried to wrangle him. I was so caught up in trying to view my photo, that I didn't even notice what was going on, until I felt the big swoosh of mud cover me head to toe in mud!

A Frangapani blossom, quite beautiful when viewed up close. We can find great things when we open our eyes and really look.

This picture was taken in Namibia, in the Kaokoland region.

Taken on Dartmoor, just outside of Plymouth in southern England, where these ponies roam the moor free. It was nice to see these wild ponies in their natural habitat.

This is my first seriously done self portrait. It was not so easy to take a photo of myself -- especally when you can not look through the viewfinder.

This photograph was taken in Rome, Italy during the summer of 2004, during my travels through Europe. I wanted to capture the essence of how a city like Rome acts like a living museum. I was impressed by the way modern infrastructures weave delicately around the ancient treasures, preserving the landmarks of centuries past.

This is my nephew and one of my favorite dogs. I took it after a family gathering, when they were in my brothers car. I used this for my Mom's 80th. birthday invitation, so it turned into a special picture.

My wife and I travel to Europe and share our experences with our students. We took this great wall on the Island of Borano, in Venice, Italy.

This shot was taken under difficult shooting conditions. I took it out the passenger side window of my vehicle, while I was sitting on the driver's side, supporting a 400mm lens on the edge of the window. Plus, the way I was angled in the car, I could barely look through the camera's viewfinder. The picture was taken in February 2005, along the Lackawaxen River, in Rowlands, PA. If this doesn't define nature at it's best, I don't know what does.

Splashy color is the hallmark of this famous nursery in Litchfield, Connecticut. I wait each spring to see what they will come up with.

This white buck is part of the world's largest herd of white deer, who are found at the former Seneca Army Depot in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. These white deer are not albinos as they don't have pink eyes, rather their eyes are brown. A white deer was first seen at the Depot in the early 1950's, and with protection from the U.S. Army eventually grew to approximately 250 white deer.

The picture was made during the Autumn of 2004.

While living in Okinawa, Japan, I was able to attend numerous traditional performances, many of which featured these striking Yotsudake dancers. I had arrived late at this particular event, and the dancers had just finished and were in the process of leaving the stage. Struck by the sight of their backs rather than the head-on views one usually sees, I grabbed my camera and shot without any time for thinking or preparing. This image was what I managed to capture, a fitting memory of a fascinating island, a warm people and a happy time in my life.

This is a street musician playing the violin-horn, an old instrument from Eastern Europe, on a commercial pedestrian street in Brussels. The picture was shot against a shop window, and the background is actually the reflection of the opposite street.

Great Sand Dunes National Park is a magnificent and unique geological anomaly in southern Colorado. Mountain sized sand dunes rise to rival the Sangre de Christo mountains. This image was captured in October 2004. This newly designated national park is a beautiful place to visit, enjoy and marvel.
