KODAK MOMENT of the Day

Ah, poor Maddie. Made to sit and hold up a sign saying hold old she is (5 months), and wear a paper birthday hat. With all 3 of our children, I've taken monthly shots of them the first year to watch them grow.
I love this photo because it reminds me of the look of dismay you'd see in one of those photos of a child who takes the first lick of their ice cream cone -- only to have the scoop topple off the cone onto the ground.

Rental boats on the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Canal near downtown Washington, DC. The quiet and peacefulness of this scene attracted me.

This is a photo of a very kindhearted lady I met in a rural village in Laos.
I stayed in the village, at the invitation of a woman I met on a local bus. Spending a couple days with the children, families and elders of this village will remain one of my most memorable of experiences.

Originally taken to represent a theme of "April Showers" this photo won first prize. "Sous la pluie" simply translates to "in the rain".

I found this cluster of mushrooms growing on the side of a ditch near a pile of leaves in the woods. I decided to light it from behind at a low angle and was happy to discover the small snail crawling on the bunch when I reviewed it later on my computer.

It started raining while shooting a senior photo. My handy dandy pink umbrella came in quite handy.

The unfolding of the leaves met with the sunshine is just a burst of green that makes me welcome the day.

My friend, Chelsey, has the most amazing eyes. I decided to get creative with a close up shot of it.

Even bare trees in the winter can be beautiful.

I love taking pictures of flowers then editing them! What a great way to start Spring!

This is a special photo to me because I love capturing the innocence of children in photography, and that's what this makes me think of.
It was taken during the summer in front of my house while my son was playing with the hose and I was watering flowers. I selected the artistic/creative theme because it's a black and white shot of only his legs and feet -- with his reflection in the water on the ground. Hope you like it!

The fields of the Palouse region (southeastern Washington) turn vivid green in early June. The tones and patterns vary with each planting season. I took this sunrise photo from Steptoe Butte, a popular spot to photograph the rolling hills. It has a Tuscan feel to it.

The columns in the Jefferson Memorial dwarf the visitors at the memorial.

I took this photo in 2006 when I was 15. It was taken in Montreal, Quebec while there with my high school. I love taking pictures and this man whooshed in front of my camera and was cursing at himself for smoking and driving... I call this photo a 'happy accident' because it inspired me to go to school for film!

This picture was taken in my front yard. One mushroom was toppled over next to the one still upright.

This is Henry, my 3 year old minature dachshund. He never gets tired of retreiving. In this photo, he is running back towards me after I faked a throw of his favorite toy.

As school starts back and the temperatures start way to warm, I think I am ready for Fall!

The Mandrill monkey made incredible faces which allowed for some awesome "Kodak moments"

This is my favorite photo since purchasing my Z981. I took it in Duxbury Woods in Lancashire. I am definitely going to have it blown up and framed.

Young Great Egrets seen in the wild struggling to survive - they cry out to their parents for food.

Poised at the tip of the reflection, this seagull was just begging to have his picture taken. Taken at Morro Bay, CA.

While taking this picture I could see the butterfly's head tilting left and right as it observed me observing it. You really get a sense of personality in even the smallest creatures when you are shooting macro.

Our baby Basilisk lizards hatched out yesterday. This is a photo of one of them peeking out on the world. He looks like a baby dinosaur. So amazing to watch them be born.

This picture is special for me because it makes me feel relaxed, and it makes a nice contrast between the water and the jungle. I took it in Palenque, Mexico last August.

The picture is related with the theme "nature" because when you see it, the first thing you think about is nature.

This was taken in the wild on a cloudy afternoon near a waterfall in Kerala, India. The smallest one in the picture was being bullied by a group of mischief mongers - and immediately the mother, father and another elder monkey came to its rescue. The tiny tot then hugged it's mother and felt relieved. This picture show intense family bondage seen within monkey's, the closest beings to humans.

It's wonderful what happens when different elements of nature combine to create beautiful images. I loved the way these early morning dew drops are captured by the spiders web and the soft morning rays of the sun. I captured this image while on an early morning walk near a dam in South Africa.

I took this photo in my backyard in May 2010 using a Canon 100mm macro lens. I used a flash to light the spider.

I liked taking this photo because the butterfly did not mind me crouching down to take his picture. I love the colors of the butterfly against the clear blue sky - it is nature at its finest! Taken in July 2010 in my back yard in Texas.

Near Kennett Square, PA there were two big field of sunflowers ... 22 acres and more than 460,000 plants! The best part of my day was the people that were smiling, talking to everyone and at peace in the sunflower field!

This little Sulcata tortoise was quite determined in trying to get away from me.

The diet of the White Ibis is diverse as shown by this dragonfly which is about to be consumed.

This is a rare shot of what is called a "Veil of Eggs" that was laid by a Goosefish at the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA. The veil is 56 feet in length, weighs approximately 25 pounds and is estimated to contain more than 1 million eggs.

This was taken while I was on a nature hike. I passed by a clearing dotted by bushes and grass — the wind moved them ever so slightly, and my eye picked up a flash of red. I looked closer, and snap!

Shot on the Shenandoah river on a warm summer day. This image takes me back to my boyhood when I spent many a happy hour with a fishing pole in my hand.

I clicked this picture while on the way to my Delhi tour.

While visiting a raptor recovery preserve, I noticed this not-so-friendly guy peering at me through a cage. I quickly snapped this shot and left him alone.

Taken while on a hike in Yellowstone National Park.

I took this close shot of a sleeping baby rhino in September 2010. It has a hot and humid day and he was napping next to his mother in a shady spot on the sand.

During the daytime this dead tree is nothing, yet as the night approaches, it becomes a home for migrating birds. What a lovely sight!

This is a shot through the sunroof of my car during a spring rainstorm. The vibrant, wet seemed harbingers of spring.

My son has always been a creative soul...and loves to paint. When I took this picture it just screamed for color. So I adjusted the photograph to include both color and black and white -- which adds such depth and art to a simple photograph.

When it's feeding time, it seems these Koi try to see how much they can get, and beat the others to it.

I love visiting the farm this time of year to see all the new foals. This was taken at Birch Creek Farm in Cream Ridge, N.J.

This was taken to document our son's nursery. Every picture is very special to me, but I love this one because it captures the playfulness and love that we share!
