Our last “in person” school day of the year was Thursday, March 12th. None of us knew we’d be out the rest of the year, and it’s been hard on everyone! As the PE teacher of over 500 students, I love being able to have a connection with all of them. It’s so strange to go from seeing all of those students in one building, to only seeing some with the help of technology at home. For the month of April, I mailed a birthday note and balloons to the 51 students who would celebrate their birthday that month. Once the weather got nice, I partnered up with our art teacher, Mrs. Belanger. She made a design with each students name on the envelope, while I wrote a birthday note from the two of us and included some balloons for them to do for an activity at home. Instead of mailing them, I decided to go for long walks in our school neighborhood once a week to personally deliver them. Being able to actually see some of my students and their families made me extra grateful each week. It’s those little things that make such a big impact. We plan to continue this into the summer!
