KODAK MOMENT of the Day

This is a photo I took in Tasmania after a few weeks camping in the national park of Freysinet! I shot this photo on Kodak Portra 400.

The title of this moment is a quote from “Brighton Beach” by Rod Stewart, song gear came to my mind immediately when I saw this scene.

“It seems like there is always a couple sitting in this spot, waiting to be part of a photograph” a friend of mine commented, when he saw this shot. It is probably true, and the first time I ever visited Brighton, I did the same. After all, is there anything more calming and fulfilling than sitting on the beach with your loved one, gazing at the sea?

And this moment from my autumn photographic walk around Brighton last September reminded me of that.

When life is getting a bit dull get out to the great outdoors and find that inner child in you. My daughter and I went to Ben Crom Dam, in the Mourne Mountains, for a bike ride in the rain!! Many people turned when they arrived at this flood in the road. We took it as an opportunity for some fun!!

I was walking along the board walk at Pacifica Beach and I saw a man who was just basking in the beauty of the sea. It was the perfect moment so I just had to capture it.

The wind was blowing with 26 m/s but I could help my self but crawl out on the ledge, I love hiking and one of the thrills is about going straight to the edge! 

This rainbow popped out of a rainstorm moving our way while on a hike. Racing against time to get the shot before I got drenched, I was able to capture this moment using Kodak Portra 160 film.

We met when I took a gap year in college and knew we wanted to be together. As I finished school and we were making our plans, COVID hit, so we didn’t see each other for 1 year and 8 months. It was really hard, but worth the wait! On December 14th, 2020, after one of the worst years ever, we got married and captured the beauty of our day in the Mabira Forrest in Jinja, Uganda. 

It was born from the idea that you do not occupy anyone else, but your self.

The best feeling you can have, catching a wave and ride it to the beach 

Late February in San Diego, California we were blessed with a week of just the most absolute primetime weather. Mid 70s, crystal clear skies with a light breeze. Every sunset shoot was a dream that week. Tourmaline beach will always a have soft spot for my sunset shoots. This photo captures it all. Thank you Kodak Moments for the feature!

I've always wanted to visit this interesting cave next to Timber Beach and I finally did.

On the beaches of Zihuatanejo in Guerrero state there is an activity that consists of being lifted by a boat-driven parachute and allows you to see the beautiful views of Zihuatanejo. But before they go up, the workers have to lift the parachute in the air so that it is ready to make the trip. Once I took the picture of the moment one of them approached me and said "from above it looks better!" But I reject the invitation for fear of losing my camera several feet high.

The camera is an Olympus Infinity Zoom 105 and the film is Kodak Color Plus 200

What a privilege it is to be the mother of boys.  Boys who will grow up respecting, loving and honoring women.  Treating them as equals.  Listening, truly listening, to what they have to say.  Taking the word “no” for exactly that— a no.  Valuing the women that they encounter as they go through life.

I promise I’m raising boys who you can trust your girls to be around and be respected by.

My first memorable time at Watson’s Bay was about 10 years ago. I remember going swimming and snorkeling with my partner. I even got into some fishing with him, though I only ended up demotivating both of us with the many times my line got caught on rocks, lost hooks and fish food! ?? I don’t think I’ll ever be great at fishing... 

Few weeks ago, we came back to this spot at Watson’s Bay to reminiscence our first days of dating. It’s still a great instagrammable spot with stunning views of the city skyline just like 10 years ago! ?

To appreciate the view with your heart but not the camera

Visiting Australia when I was 22! This was my first trip with my (now) husband and we’ve continued to travel over the last 14 years! 

It being a Sunday, I decided to go for a photo walk at one of our local beaches. The beach was full of people and I noticed that they were two dogs that were running around with full of energy and were just being playful. I realized that they could turn out to be interesting subjects. I wanted to make a frame where only the two dogs were in it with no individuals. So I waited until the perfect moment. I didn't realize that I have made the frame that I was after, until I got the scans back. I am just happy with the fact, that I was able to freeze this moment. It outlines their character and how friendly they are. This photograph was made on Kodak portra 400 and the camera used was Pentax K1000.

Family time is always precious. Even though We’re getting older and we’ve chosen different paths, our bond has never wavered

Sena is an individual who exudes excellence, and I don't just mean in the usual sense of the word. As black people, our worth is often attached to how much we can succeed in life despite our disadvantages. What makes Sena excellent is the way he makes others feel. He's charismatic, kind, and multi-faceted. He's a theatre nerd, an incredible dancer, and he loves to hang. He's also a huge anime fan ?.

It's not a new thing for black photographers to capture black people, and that's why I want to go further. I want to capture black people who might have felt "othered" at some point in their lives. Maybe they didn't quite fit into spaces society said they "should" have. Maybe they have tastes that are popular now that weren't popular when they were growing up (see previous paragraph for anime ?).

On a trip to Big Bear Lake in Southern California, my friends and I stumbled across this very spot. It was a moment that had to be captured.

Even when traveling, you have several milestones. At this moment, we celebrated our opportunity to stay in Australia for another year. We had to do at least 3 months of farm work to qualify for a second year Visa.

The moment that she realised the baby was here to stay.
