This picture reminds me of the sense of awe we felt during our visit to the Statue of Liberty. We took this picture last summer (2007) while we in NYC for my daughter Rachael's acceptance at Carnegie Hall of a National Scholastic Writing award. Rachael had the idea for the photo and I took the actual shot of her, my wife and youngest daughter. Every time I look at this photo it makes me wonder how immigrants arriving at Ellis Island must have felt when experiencing their own, personal Independence Day.
